So, I've been interested in trying to go mountain biking this winter, even though I don't have a fat bike, they're just too expensive. I was able to go riding once with my regular 26" wheels on a local trail in the snow. definitely more sketchy, but a lot of fun. The next time I tried to go though, the trail was totally iced over due to the thaw/freeze weather we've been having... so icy I joked that one could ice skate it.. LIGHT BULB!
I borrowed a GoPro and tried out something that I don't think is a thing yet, cross-country ice skating, or trail skating, or maybe you can help come up with a cool name. Check out the video I made, and give me a break I haven't skated in a long time. Maybe this can become a thing, maybe not. One thing I know for sure, it was a LOT of fun. You've got a really narrow strip of ice that isn't flat at all, and the trees, rocks and other obstacles to clear. I can't wait to get out there and get into the hillier sections, maybe see if I can get some air.
If you wanna give it a try, I'd recommend a trail that has lots of fatbike traffic (so the path is smooth and packed down firm) that has recently experienced a thaw, but is now freezing again. And you should also feel comfortable on a pair of skates. have fun Cheapskates!
